We are spending a lot more time at home at the moment, so heading to our favorite beauty spots to indulge in a little self-care has been put on hold for a while. Just because social distancing has altered our normal routine, doesn’t mean we should stop this wonderful self-care ritual.
So how can we recreate that salon experience at home and indulge ourselves in a little me-time? Firstly remove anything that will detract you from your timeout, this means your smartphone will need to leave the room and be placed on silent.
Set the mood
To achieve the tranquil feeling of the salon environment in your own home, think about energizing your senses. Start with the visual environment, soft lighting, a vase with a flower from your garden and a neatly rolled towel ready for your treatment. A floral scented candle will help you relax and provide a luxurious space. Make sure the room temperature is comfortable. Calming music to help calm your mind is the perfect addition to setting the mood. Boil the kettle and make yourself a herbal tea for inner beauty. Have a glass of water available for hydration purpose.
Bath treatment – Run your bath at a comfortable temperature adding mineral salts and about ten drops of your favourite essential oil. For total indulgence, drop a handful of flower petals in the bath, so they softly float on the top of the bathwater. Lay a towel on the floor to capture excess product. Step into your bath, submerge your body in water to dampen your skin, carefully step out of the bath standing on the towel, using your favourite body polish/scrub, apply over your body in firm circular motions. Once you feel your skin energized, step back into the bath and repeat the circular motions removing the body polish from your body. Once you have finished this step, submerge your body in the fragrant bath water covering up to your neckline, sitting your neck on a soft, warm towel for comfort. Close your eyes and absurd your environment, relax with the genital music, breath in the cleansing steam, let the aroma take you to a beautiful place, absorb the minerals into your skin.
Shower treatment – Lay a towel on the floor to capture excess product. Run the shower to steam the room. Step into your shower to dampen your skin all over, carefully step out of the shower standing on the towel, using your favourite body polish/scrub, apply over your body in firm circular motions. Once you feel your skin energized, step back into the shower and repeat the circular motions, removing the body polish from your body, be careful the product doesn’t make the shower floor slippery. Allow your body to absorb the moisture by spending a little time lightly breathing in the steam. Step out of the shower patting yourself dry with a soft towel.
Standing on your towel, which will help reduce slipping, take your favourite body oil, warm the desired amount in your hands then massage into your body with long firm strokes towards your heart. Start with your feet, moving up the legs then large circular motions on your torso, move to your hands then full-length strokes from the base of your arm to your shoulder. Finish with the top of your back and up the back of your neck.
Taking time out once a week to enjoy this self-care ritual can help you reconnect with your inner and outer beauty. Book it into your calendar, put your phone on silent and relax, your at home-beauty salon is open for business.
